Data from the MLA Survey of Departmental Staffing, Fall 2014
While data on faculty appointments are widely available by institution, we know much less about the composition of the faculty and course staffing within specific departments. To help fill this gap, the MLA in 2015 asked chairs of English and language departments to complete a survey on their instructors, the type and number of courses offered, and course staffing in the fall 2014 term. In all, 438 departments responded, shedding new light on teaching in English and foreign language departments in United States higher education.
