The Career Paths of Modern Language PhDs: Findings from the 2017 MLA Survey of Doctoral Program Graduates
This report presents the results of a 2017 survey, conducted by the MLA office of research, on the employment histories and career satisfaction of 311 humanities PhD recipients who received terminal degrees between 1995 and 2015. The report is intended to provide a preliminary view of the career paths of doctoral program graduates, document the conditions that may have influenced job placements, and encourage further research and tracking efforts.
